Gameplay

Overview

The gameplay of Quadrix is simple, but don’t let that fool you; Quadrix is fast-paced and just when you think you have gotten the hang of it the pace quickens until it becomes so frenetic that even the most skilled players cannot keep up.

Basic Strategy

The goal of Quadrix is to accumulate as many points as possible before the game ends. In order to accomplish this, the player can maneuver the tetrominoes left or right and rotate them. The player may attempt to keep the wells as clear as possible to avoid the game end at all costs, or the player may try to arrange the tetrominoes to set up a multiple line clearing play to get more points. In the beginning of the game when the tetrominoes are falling slowly the second approach may be more advantageous but as the pace picks up the player might be better served by taking the first approach.

Power-ups

Over the course of a game of Quadrix the player may have the opportunity to acquire various power-ups. These power-ups allow for exciting ways to further the objective of Quadrix: accumulate as many points as possible before the game ends.

  • Acquisition and Accumulation

Power-ups may be acquired by clearing lines. Once the player has acquired a power-up, they must use that power-up at their discretion. They may choose any time to use it after acquisition. This allows for a strategic decision to receive maximum utility from that power-up. Players may even be able to accumulate multiple power-ups over the course of a single game. The power-ups the player has acquired are shown on the gameboard.

  • Score Multiplier Power-up

This power-up gives the player twice the amount of points acquired within a 15 second timeframe.

  • Slow Fall Power-up

The slow fall power-up slows down the fall of the tetrominoes within a 15 second timeframe.

  • Mercy Power-up

The mercy power-up forces only square block and straight line tetriminos to spawn for the next 15 seconds.
